Quality photography requires several pieces of equipment. This is checklist of photography equipment provides a list of items needed and helpful tips for amateur photography or for use at a professional photo shoot.
Camera Bag
Make sure you have a large enough bag with enough pockets to carry all the needed attachments and cables. It is also handy to have a small case for day travel.
Batteries
Rechargeable batteries and/or alkaline. Always bring extra batteries for your camera.
Do not mix rechargeable and alkaline batteries. If using rechargeable batteries, make sure the batteries are fully charged before the event.
Tripod and/or Monopod
This will help stabilize the camera for action shots or when using a timer to capture yourself in the picture also.
A monopod stand is helpful when there is limited space available. It is also called a unipod and is a single pole with a device at the top that allows the camera to be attached.
Stability, limit movement, and provide for hands-free camera use.
Cables
For downloading pictures onto a computer.
It is easier to view the quality of the photo when it can be viewed on a larger computer screen.
Memory Cards
May need more than one, depending on how long you will need to store the photos before downloading to the computer.
A memory cards that is sold with a camera generally does not hold enough photos for the average user. Consider a memory card that is at least 128MB.
Battery charger
When purchasing a battery charger, choose one that can accommodate all types of batteries and has an indicator on it showing how much charge is remaining.

Light Stand
For use with professional photo shoots and portraits.
Backdrop
This is generally used in staged photography.
Cleaning Cloths
For lenses and computer screen.
Micro fiber cloths work great.
