This check list is in the following categories:
Helpful hints and what to pack when traveling by air.
Pack everything you will need in a carry-on suitcase that can be pulled on rollers. You do not want to return to the airport for a missing bag, especially when you are on a short business trip or leisurely vacation.
  • Pack a book to read or a project to work on while in flight.
Some airlines are providing internet access during flight for a fee.
  • Cash and credit card for purchasing food on the plane or at the airport.
Most airlines currently serve a small meal for about five dollars. Some require cash, while others now require credit card for purchases.
  • Identification
Remember passport or green card if traveling outside the United States. Driver's license or photo I.D. is also required.
  • Boarding Pass
This can be printed within 24 hours prior to departure when traveling on most major airlines.
  • Neck Pillow
  • Noise-cancelling ear phones
The airlines will often supply ear phones for free or a small charge, but you may prefer to bring your own.
  • Empty water bottle to fill after passing through security
  • Personal hygiene and overnight essentials packed in a carry-on
Airline delays and cancellations can occur at anytime, even when weather conditions are good.
  • Travel snacks (if desired)
  • Medication for pain and motion-sickness
  • Warm clothes or travel blanket for the plane
Sometimes it is easier to sleep on the plane if you are warm. Consider packing a warm pair of socks and fleece blanket that folds into a compact carrier or a soft sweatshirt that is easy to put on or take off while sitting in tight quarters.
  • Bring an extra-large reseal-able bag for dirty laundry.
Put a dryer sheet in your laundry bag to help reduce odor.
  • Clothing that can be mixed, matched, and can be layered
Dark colors are generally best as they hide small spots.
  • Casual clothing for traveling
Sitting on a plane in a suit is uncomfortable. If you aren't being met at the airport by a business associate, it makes sense to dress comfortably.
  • Computer and necessary components
Labeling all cable cords will make them easier to find and install. Then pack them together in a large, clear, reseal-able bag. Remember to fully charge all electronics and batteries before traveling.
  • Cell phone and/or palm pilot
All liquid items must be in a 3-ounce container and enclosed in a clear, reseal-able bag. Airport security will not let any liquid passed the terminal if it does not meet this requirement. Even unopened water bottles will be discarded.
