  • Life jacket (if needed)
  • Drinks and snacks
  • Water-repellant beach bag or backpack
  • Ice chest that is easy to carry
An insulated bag is another option. If space is limited, an insulated bag may work better than a hard-sided ice chest. When packing for the beach, also consider how you will be able to carry items from the car to the water in as few trips as possible.
  • Cash (if needed)
  • Swimming suit
  • Hat or visor
  • Sandals or slip-on shoes
Sandals will protect your feet from the hot sand. They also protect your feet from glass and objects in the water without weighing you down. If the sand is soft, it is best to wear a sandal that will not fall off while you walk along the beach.
  • Sun glasses
  • Sunscreen (waterproof and 50 SPF is best)
Re-apply every 1-2 hours, especially if getting wet or perspiring.
  • Beach towel
  • Lawn chair
  • Patio umbrella (for shade)
  • Flat bed sheet (if you wish to lay on the sand)
  • Air mattress
If air mattresses may need to be deflated during travel, remember to add an air pump to your packing list for the beach. A battery operated air pump or one that uses a vehicle cigarette lighter is best.
  • Beach buckets, claws, shovels
  • Spray bottle
This can be used to help stay cool and also useful when making a sand castle.
  • Book to read or music
  • Sports equipment
Such as a Frisbee, football, horseshoes, lawn darts, etc.
  • Camera
