Help for people who may have ADHA or difficulty staying focused on a task.
When a child or adult is unable to focus it causes problems for everyone involved. This list of ideas and suggestions that may help you deal with the challenges of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.)
  • Eat a healthy diet.
    In order for your body to function properly, it is imperative that you eat a healthy diet including vitamins and fiber. Limiting sugar intake is especially important for children who struggle with hyperactivity as it causes an imbalance in their energy level.
  • Create a daily schedule. This may need to be written down.
    It is important, especially for children, that a regular schedule be maintained. This includes meal time, social activities, bedtime, and when chores and homework are to be done.
  • Keep each other accountable.
    Challenge each other to reach your goals and reward each other when goals are met.
  • What time of day or during which activities are you most tempted to lose focus? Be aware of it and then discuss it with another person.
    Talking about your weakness with an accountability partner can help you be more aware of it and deal with it.
  • Prepare a young child for social interaction
    Children may have trouble conducting themselves properly in a social setting. Talk about the event before it happens. Let them know how they should handle themselves during the upcoming event or in a particular situation.
  • Be proactive, not reactive, when trying to change a child's behavior.
    Parental guidance is more effective than punishment.
  • Reward yourself (or your child) for accomplishing a goal.
  • Exercise your ability to focus through activities such as reading, memorizing, and writing.
    This exercised should start with a goal and time limit.
  • If the symptoms of ADD or ADHA cause serious problems, do not hesitate to seek professional help.
    Therapists have developed excellent methods of evaluating children and adults for ADD and ADHD. They have the tools necessary to evaluate and make qualified recommendations.
  • In serious cases, medication may be helpful.
  • If medication is desired, take only as advised by a doctor.
    It may take awhile before the corrected dosage and type of medication can be determined.
